I am remember very vividly the first time I met Bianca (Eloise’s mommy).  My husband and I were considering moving to the DC area from Columbus, Ohio for the PhD program in Criminology at the University of Maryland.  When we originally got the offer from Maryland it seemed too good to be true.  So, we took a little trip to tour the campus and “interview” some professors and students about the program.  We wanted to see it and feel it before we made such a major move.  The Chair of Graduate Studies ( I think I got that title right:) ) made us six appointments that day.  One of those appointments was with Bianca.  After multiple meetings already we walked into the all white conference room and met Bianca.  She was such a bright smiling face in the midst of so much uncertainty.  We had such a great visit with her and she told us the good and the bad of the program.  Both Brandon and I felt like she was so real with us.  It was so refreshing.  She didn’t care what funding level my husband had been offered or for how long.  She cared about us as people.  The thing that won me over is that she cared for us, not just Brandon.  She recognized that it is a hard move for the spouse as well.  I was won over:)  When we left Bianca to meet with Brandon’s future advisor I remember recalling to Brandon that if all people in the program were like Bianca then we could do this:)

Throughout the first three years of the program I have been able to get together with Bianca for dinner and girl time.  One night after a great dinner at Ella’s Wood Fired Grill, I came home and told Brandon that Bianca was pregnant.  She had not told me but I just knew.  Sure enough, a few weeks later she made the announcement:)  Both Brandon and I could not be happier for she & Nathan.  The beautiful baby girl, Eloise, is the result.

Bianca just graduated with her PhD (YAY!!!!!!) and will be headed to the the University of Massachusetts.  As I type this the movers are packing up their house and they will be heading out.

Bianca, Nathan, & Eloise – I had such a great time photographing your family.  We will miss having you around the help bring some reality to the UMD PhD Crim program.  You will be missed:)  Hope you enjoy the pics of your sweet family.

Before the photo shoot started I was warned that the moment the camera came out Eloise would become very serious.  I think I heard a challenge in there.  Well I had some back up arsenal in the form of my husband:)  He is amazing with kids and can totally make them laugh and smile.  I think I won the challenge, but what do you think?

I LOVE watching first time parents with their first born.  It is such a special connection.

Seriously, does it get any cuter????  I won:)

If you have been a regular reader of my blog you know that I love baby feet:)  You will probably see baby feet from every baby session I do because I love them that much.  It is my blog though so I think I am allowed:)

Do we have a future Criminologist here? (the bars, get it?:) )

We ended the shoot with just a couple of Bianca & Nathan.  At this point it had gotten to be pretty hot and sticky, but we had to get a couple of the two of them.

Summer: These are such great pics! And little Miss Eloise is so stinkin' adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bianca: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THESE! Heather, thank you so much for capturing the real side of our little Eloise. You definitely won the challenge and we couldn't be happier. Somehow, even though we were all dripping because of the heat that day you managed to take some truly fantastic pictures. I can't thank you enough. We will miss you guys!

Tracy: Great job with all the photos! They are spectacular. Bianca had mentioned how hot it was that day but you can't even tell- everyone just looks happy and relaxed.

admin: Thanks Tracy!!!! It was so incredibly hot but we didn't really have time to reschedule so we made the best of it and thankfully it ended up great!

admin: YAY!!!!! I am so thankful that I captured the real Eloise;)

Niki: I love baby feet too Heather... I actually got my first SLR 8 years ago to take pictures of my own baby's feet! :) True story!

Well, I got zonked!  A few weeks ago I was up way late (another trend these days) working on my new website (yay!!) and something literally took over my computer.  I could not do anything and I truly mean that.  Of course I started freaking out and my hubby started trying to research the virus on his laptop.  The really crappy thing is that if you didn’t know any better you would have totally thought it was legit anti-virus software.  I have seen some that look fake but this did not look fake in the slightest.  Finally I just had to shut down my computer.  I sent a very desperate email from my husband’s computer to a friend from my church who has helped on other tech things.  A very long story short……the virus ate my operating system, had one main virus, 4 sub-viruses, was undetectable by any virus scanner,  and anytime it was connected to a network it re-downloaded everything.  Yeah it was nasty.  Thankfully though, I finally have my computer back and am starting to catch up:)  Also, I didn’t lose any pictures!!!  I make a habit of backing up once a week or so anyways on an external hard drive, but I hadn’t backed up for that week yet so I would have lost some stuff.  Thank you Jesus that my files could be saved!!!!

So, if you are waiting on a pics or an email; they are coming… I am catching up:)  Thanks for the extra dose of patience right now:)

Since a post is never as fun without a picture, take a look at this cutie from a couple of weeks ago.  She is a doll:)

bianca: this is so fantastic! I'm in love with the pics already. you can't even tell that it was 95 and humid that day :) thanks for bearing the awful weather with us. we look forward to seeing more of our girl. and congrats on getting your computer back.

admin: so glad that you love it Bianca! :) I have got some great expressions...my only problem is narrowing down the pics of her:)

Niki Flynn: So sorry to hear about the virus Heather... Yucky! Hope everything is all better now. :)

Tracy: Ugh - the virus sounds horrible. I am so incredibly sorry. I love the photo - you did such a great job capturing her. I can imagine it will take a lot of time to narrow down the photos!

I was so excited to photograph this family!  They are so cute and have become great friends.  As I have gotten to know them their story has become dear to my heart.  All babies are rays of sunshine in any family, but Cashel was especially that for this family.  Three weeks before Cashel was born Kristin’s mom passed away after a long battle of cancer.   It has been very hard on Kristin’s entire family and Cashel helped bring some sunshine in.  As you probably can tell, I had a hard time choosing what pictures to blog due to Mr. Little Sunshine’s cuteness:)

Kristin & Karl – Thank you for allowing to photograph your family.  I look forward to seeing what God is going to do though your family.

We ventured around Old Town Alexandria and got some super cute shots.

Probably one of my fave from the shoot…

Got to have a few pics of Mommy & Daddy..

Kristin: Love, love love! Thank you, Heather - we will treasure these.

Kim: Oh my gosh, he is just edible!!! So cute. And, you know that I love the pics in the vintage suitcases. Now that we both have more free time, we need to get together for coffee or lunch @ the place on Quaker. Let me know when is good for you!

ericha: That suitcase photo = priceless!

Charity: so beautiful heather...i love the ones of cashel in the suitcase and the brick stairs, amazing. karl and kristin are such an amazing couple and have such a precious little boy!

One more sneak peak for today.  Who can resist this little face???  Not me:)  I got so many good expressions that it has made narrowing down the final images difficult, but for now here is a sneak peak.

Karl & Kristen – He is a doll…a very manly doll:)  Can’t wait to share the rest.

Cashel's mommy: What an adorable, drooly, kissable boy! LOVE the picture, Heather!

Kim: Akkk! He is so stinkin cute!!! I want to eat him up!

This baby girl had many people in suspense as she made her entrance into the world.  After a very long labor for mom, Arabella Grace arrived on December 5, 2009.  After the holidays I was able to photograph Miss Arabella. With every client I always ask them what is the one image they want to leave the shoot with and for John & Julie it was no different.  All they wanted is to have some of the adorable expressions that they find Arabella making but never seem to be able to capture.  So, we made that our goal.   I think it was Arabella’s as well because I was way to interesting for her to lay any other way then her back.  She just wanted to show us her beautiful face:)  Enjoy her first pics!

John & Julie – I hope that I captured all the sides of Arabella for you:)  She is beautiful and an absolute joy.

John L: Heather, I'm beyond pleased with these. JL

Kim: So sweet! I love how her hair sort of swirls in a curl around her forehead :)

For the past 3 years I have had the privilege of documenting the Stine family.  David & Taryn are the lead pastors of DC Metro church where my husband I are actively involved.  Each year we seem to push their shoot out as late as possible so it is always a tad chilly :)   This year was much nicer though!  We headed out to Mt. Vernon in hopes of getting some Potomac views.  Well, I think we accomplished our goal (well, as much as you can with a 3 & almost 2 year old:))

David & Taryn – It was a blast!  It is an honor serving beside of you.  Hope you enjoy the pics!

Kim: Heather, I'm happy to see that even a professional photographer can't get toddlers to look at the camera every time...makes me feel a little better :) Kim

I am always amazed how put together this couple is.  Every time I see them they are perfectly coordinated and classic. Well, then they had a baby and yes, he is the most stylish baby as well :-)   A few weeks ago we went out to take a few 6 month pictures of their little one Deacon.  While we were at it we got several cute family ones as well.

Matt & Amber – It was an honor to photograph you guys.  I hope that you enjoy the pics and that I captured Deacon well :-)

Sneak Peak ~ DC Photographer

November 7, 2009

So, I had to post a sneak peak from my second shoot from today.  This little guy is flippin’ adorable!

deacon

Kim: Oh my gosh, that kid has serious personality! Love it!

Summer: LOVE THIS PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!He is so cute!

Andrea: He should be a baby model -- he's positively captivating!

A few weeks ago I had the treat of photographing Asher & his awesome parents.  Asher is going to be one smart kiddo!  Tracy, his mom, goes to school with my husband at the University of Maryland, where they are both working towards their PhD in criminology, and his dad, Denesh, is a professor at William & Mary (in Williamsburg, VA).  Talk about some good genes!  We met up at City Place in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland and prayed that the rain would stay away for just a little while longer.  Turns out it did and we got some great shots!

Tracy & Denesh – I so hope that you enjoy these pics of your adorable family!  Thanks again for introducing us to Pho-Hiep Hoa (yummmmmy Vietnamese restaurant)!

Part way through the shoot we decided to snap some of just mom & dad – so Asher and Brandon shared a snack of Cheerios.  It was too cute to not capture!

Tracy – you are so beautiful!

img_8717blog

And now my favorite…..this one tells a story to me.  This moment was unscripted as they waited on me to “change my card” or “test lighting”.  The joy on Tracy’s face, the protection over Asher coming from Denesh, and Asher being a little boy and playing with anything he can get his hands on (in this case his mom’s sunglasses).  This is a moment to treasure.

Kim: I love the one with Brandon & Asher -- the look on Asher's face is "You're OK! You have cheerios!"

So, back in March we attempted to do a 1 year shoot for Teagan’s birthday.  Well, the day we choose it happened to drop 20 some odd degrees from the day before and the wind was rough.  We were tough though, we could do it.  So we ventured out early (6:50 am people!) into the district to catch good light and hopefully avoid the crowds.  By the time we got there Teagan was starting to get a little crabby, but it was nothing a few snacks couldn’t solve.  We found a spot to start and I started shooting.  Maybe a half hour later Teagan let us know that he was done :)   His dad, Dana, made me promise that I wouldn’t delete this pic.  I think we all felt a little of what Teegan was feeling.

img_6718b

Take 2 happened about a month and a half later (it was delayed multiple time due to the large quanities of rain we had).  This time Teagan was in a great mood!  I got some great pics of him and his parents.  So without further ado…….
