Springtime blooms in DC

April 16, 2010

I LOVE Springtime!!  There is just something about everything coming to life that inspires me.  Everyday as I drive through my neighborhood I am overwhelmed by the beauty of the trees and flowers.  So, the other day I took my dog Bella on a really long walk and took along my camera.  Brave I know.  I couldn’t let it pass me by though.  There were definitely some shots that were blurry due a squirrel or bird flaunting themselves at my 7 month old puppy;)

Here is a sampling of what I saw that day….

I am told that the below is a tulip tree…never knew such a thing existed!

Ericha Farrington: Beautiful! I had no idea about the tulip tree either!

Niki Flynn: Gorgeous! I absolutely love that one of the tulip tree! (and have never heard of it either!)

admin: you finally commented...I feel the love:)

Connie: Tres magnifique, Heather! I had not hear of them being called tulip trees, but I've heard of them called Saucer Magnolias.

So, my friends often say compare me to Martha Stewart and the occasional Sara Lee.  In my “free time” (I don’t have much of it) I like to cook.  Recently it has taken the form of baking most of the time.  It all started last summer when I saw these sugar cookies on a food blog that I read called Annie’s Eats. They are in the shape of  baby onesies and I could not resist.  Thus my obsession with royal icing started.  I have made the onesie cookies numerous time for friends who had babies, fall cookies, and now dog bone cookies.

Recently my dog Bella has gotten out of our fenced yard on a few occasions.  She always goes to our neighbors house that is beside ours and also is conveniently next to a good size creek.  Thankfully they have seen her multiple times and grabbed her.  My husband and I have been so appreciative.  So, I thought to show them our appreciation I would make them some cookies.

The results are below.  Now humor me a minute and let me point out that I made chocolate sugar cookies with pink & white icing because I have a chocolate lab who wears a pink collar:)  Yeah, I am slightly cheesy at times but they turned out great.  The neighbors loved them too!

I’ve been published!!!

April 6, 2010

This post has been a long time coming!  I was published the book Little Redheads Across America some time ago, but I never got around to blogging about it.  So, the other day I finally got the pictures taken!!!  Yay me:)

The premise of the book is this…..it has pics from kids in all 50 states.  The book has facts about red heads, the states, and so much more.  It is very well done and very cute!  To read the authors take on how the project got started, click here.

Onto the story behind how this happened.  I was contacted by a client who had heard about this book when it was still in the writing stages.  She had contacted the author and asked if they had anyone to represent Washington DC.  As it turns out they had one other at the time and welcomed another.  So, one day after church we took off to a playground and did a little mini photo shoot with Jonah.   I loved how it turned out!!

If you have a redhead in your family consider purchasing them a book from the website.

This post is for those photographers out there.  In a few weeks Jared Bauman will be coming to the DC area to do the Prevail in Business SeminarJared has been a wedding photographer in the San Diego area for about 9 years now.  I personally have known Jared for 5 or so years and he is always such a wealth of information.  When I was starting out I had the opportunity to meet with Jared while in San Diego.  We were able to have an amazing lunch, where he shared so much information to help me succeed.  As a surprise after lunch I actually assisted him on a wedding!!!  I learned so much just by watching him and how he interacted with the client.   It personally was one of those experiences that changed photography as I knew it.   I personally can not wait to see Jared again and see what insight he has to share!!!  If you are a photographer, you should totally check it out.  :)
